Picture a two-person team planning its next model around whatever GPU it can actually get.

This week that planning got harder.

Reports out of the GPU supply chain say Nvidia is winding down the GeForce RTX 5090 and reserving its GB202 silicon for the professional RTX Pro line.

Rising memory costs and surging AI demand have already pushed 5090 pricing past $6000, and buyers in restricted regions have resorted to retrofitting modified cards for AI servers.

The reported consolation for everyone else is a 24GB RTX 5080.

This is a rumor report, and plenty of rumored refreshes have come to nothing.

But the direction of travel is the one small teams have been feeling all year.

When the flagship card is worth more in a workstation than in your tower, the wait gets longer and the price goes up.

A founder who planned to buy two cards this quarter is now looking at a number that could fund a year of engineering.

The way around it is to stop buying the scarce thing and rent the hours you actually need.

An RTX 3090 at $0.15/hr keeps the run moving while the capital stays in the product.

Buy Now Pay Later: zero upfront, pay after one month.

What is the longest you have had a test or training run parked because the hardware you wanted was out of stock or out of budget?
